What We Do

Volunteers Needed To Review Local Programs & Make Investment Decisions

We invite you to become a Community Investment Volunteer make a lasting change in our community. Decisions about how to invest funds in programs that solve community problems are made by teams of volunteers who review funding proposals from applicant agencies.

What is the role of a Community Investment volunteer?
  • To serve on a team of volunteers charged with reviewing proposals for United Way funding from health and human service programs in the community.
  • Get hands-on experience by reviewing program applications and visiting local non-profits.
  • Expand your network by meeting other volunteers, learning about community issues and hearing from people working to create lasting change.
  • Determine how local contributions can make the biggest impact in our community.
  • See first-hand how your United Way contribution will be invested to improve lives.
What is the time commitment to serve as a volunteer?
  • Training: 3 hours
  • Review of program applications: approx. 4-6 hours
  • Team Planning Session: 1 hour
  • Site visits: approx. 45 minutes per program (Site visits will occur March 15 – April 16 and are determined based on team member availability)
  • Team Wrap-Up Session (to make final funding recommendations): 1-2 hours
Volunteers Invest In Our Community
As a volunteer, you will:
  • Receive training so you can become knowledgeable about how to evaluate program quality.
  • Increase your knowledge of United Way’s mission, allocation process and priority areas.
  • Review program applications for funding.
  • Participate as a member of an “Investment Team” and conduct site visits.
  • Exercise good stewardship in making funding recommendations.
  • Provide rational insight for your position.
  • Evaluate each program and make funding recommendations.
What qualifications are required to participate?
Community Investment Team Members should have an interest in the quality of life for people in our community. Volunteers should also be able to attend the meetings associated with participation on an allocations committee, which take place during the business day.
