Through an annual volunteer-based Allocation Process, the United Way guarantees that donated funds are used wisely to serve the people who need it the most.
Approximately 45 volunteers:
- Receive a half-day training to learn how to review the different components of the United Way proposal including program information, budgets and outcomes.
- Make on-site visits to review agencies and learn about the level of community need relevant to the programs the agency offers so they can apply this knowledge during the process.
- Complete evaluations of each agency program that includes organizational and program effectiveness, financial accountability, outcomes, program strengths and program concerns.
- Make recommendations for program funding to the United Way board for approval.
The allocation process requires tough choices. Even after the most successful campaign, limited resources must be stretched to meet all the requests. Ensuring a great return on the investment to donors and the community is always a priority.
Community volunteers make these decisions because they care about what matters.
