Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

More than half of all taxpayers pay a tax preparer to file their tax return. People in the Chattahoochee Valley earning $42,000 or less can file their taxes for free - thanks to VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance).

United Way is part of a local coalition of non-profit and governmental organizations working to ensure that free tax assistance is available for individuals and families earning $42,000 or less per year.  If you qualify for free assistance in filing your taxes electronically and want to ensure that you receive all of the tax credits that you have earned, please take the time to learn more about VITA.

The VITA Program offers free assistance to those with low-to-moderate income, filing Forms 1040EZ, 1040A, or basic 1040 Federal tax returns. The Volunteer Tax preparers also assist eligible taxpayers in claiming any special credits and deductions for which they might be eligible. All Volunteer Tax preparers are trained and certified by the IRS in basic income tax return preparation.

Volunteers
This is a great volunteer job where you can assist the many local citizens file their taxes to receive a refund.  You will be trained by the IRS and have great support to do this work.  You can be a tax preparer (I can do it so you CAN too!) or you can be a greeter, or a quality reviewer.  There are a variety of sites (including the Homeless Resource Network) at which you can work to suit your schedule.
