Released On: 10/13/2011 9:13:53 AM

United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley will kick off its student United Way program with the first meeting on Thursday, October 13 at 4 p.m. at Easter Seals. Fourteen students from area high schools have been chosen as the inaugural Live United Youth Council.

“United Way is excited about the Live United Youth Council because these students are the future of our organization,” said Scott Ferguson, president and CEO of United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley. “These students will have the opportunity to learn about all the good work that United Way is doing in the community.”

The Youth Council is one of those rare win-win-win initiatives for an organization.  United Way benefits knowing they are engaging our future generation with a great organization, the students gain the ability to learn about the various improvement opportunities they can contribute to, and the community benefits from knowing they are building the future community leaders,” said Nate Klein, volunteer chairman.

Live United Youth Council is a student-led community change organization in the Chattahoochee Valley. With support from United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley and representatives from each participating school, students in Live United Youth Council help impact the community, grow as leaders and develop relationships within the non-profit sector.  Participants will serve as a Live United Youth Council representative for 8 months. Meetings are on the second Thursday of most months at 4 p.m. at United Way Partner Agencies.

“The United Way Youth Council is an exciting initiative for United Way to engage youth and our community to truly showcase, that no matter what age, you can change the world – one person at a time – you just have to start somewhere,” said Klein.
