Alexis de Tocqueville Society

IThe Tocqueville Society is a national association created to celebrate individuals who demonstrate exceptional generosity and leadership through philanthropy. The Society takes its name from the French historian and aristocrat Alexis de Tocqueville who expressed his admiration of the American tradition of neighbor helping neighbor in his classic treatise “Democracy in America”. We’re proud to recognize local philanthropists who make an annual contribution of $10,000 or more to United Way. Through unparalleled commitment, Society members reflect extraordinary concern, foresight, and dedication to inspire a better way of life for everyone in our community. Thank you for helping United Way improve lives. Your gift of $10,000 will help 22 people avoid eviction, foreclosure or utility disconnection.  Your gift of $15,000 will provide a year of services to help 9 mothers who have been identified as being at risk for child abuse and/or neglect to demonstrate increased ability to provide proper care, feeding and nurturing to their children and address issues before they become safety hazards. As a result of this program, 100% of these families will have no substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect. Your gift of $20,000 will help 13 people avoid bankruptcy. Your gift of $25,000 will enable 30 children to participate in a mentoring program.

“When an American asks for cooperation of  his fellow citizens, it is seldom refused; and
I have often seen it afforded spontaneously and with great good will.”
