United Way Campaign for Vital Columbus – Final Report

Our United Way Campaign officially ended last Friday, Oct 21. We had a great Campaign and had a wonderful show of support for United Way, both through pledges and our Special Events during the 2-week campaign! Vital’s participation and per-capita giving have never been higher and we are proud to bring you these results.

We met our goal of 65% participation and went on to meet the TSYS participation goal of 70%, with a total of 96 associates donating through their United Way pledge card.  In giving, we raised over $35,000 from employee giving and special event support, an incredible number considering the size of our company overall.

In celebration of this great success with our United Way Campaign, we will have a celebration and thank-you lunch next Monday, Oct 31.  Another email will come out later this week with the details.

Again, thank you for your display of generosity and support for United Way and the agencies they serve here in our community. Together we know that we are making the Chattahoochee Valley better every day and leaving a legacy for those behind us to follow.

The United Way team cares deeply about Vital’s support of the United Way and we appreciate your support in making this year’s efforts one of the best for Vital ever. We are all proud to work for an organization with a strong commitment to the community and the people that make it possible year after year.

Cessna Exceeds Expectations

We have a lot of caring people here at Cessna. They've exceeded all my expectations and I am very proud of what they have done. We went from 4 at the leadership giving;level to 7, an indication of how much people care.

Blue Cross Blue Shield held an Agency Fair for their "Associate Giving Campaign".  The employees took time out of their lunch breaks to visit with the agencies and view the displays in order to learn about the services provided in the community. Their Loaned Executive is Barbara Archie.  Click here for more photos of this event.

Dan Gallagher, Employee Campaign Coordinator for MeadWestvaco Provides Their Strategy for Campaign Success

I think one of the flaws in the process that people use to decide their gift is using the prior year gift as their starting point.  In prior years, I can honestly say that I looked at my prior year gift and said to myself, "Yes, I can afford to repeat that gift, so that is my gift."  The problem is that the gift never changes and never grows to meet the increasing needs of our community, especially in a year like 2005-2006 where the tragedies in the Gulf Coast have put an additional burden on our community.

This year, my wife and I changed how we thought about or approached our gift.  We did start by looking at our prior year gift, but then we asked, can we increase that by 10%?  If everyone could increase their gift by 10%, the outcome would be AWESOME.  Here are a few examples that make it easy to swallow.  10% seems like it is a large increase and it is definitely larger than most peoples' annual pay increases, but you need to think about it in a different manner.  Take 3 examples: The person who gives a one time gift of $25, the person who gives $10 per month ($120/yr), and the person who gives $50 per month ($600/yr).

$25 one time gift
A 10% increase is $2.50.  Instead of giving $25, could I give $27-$28?  Doesn't seem like much, but that is a 10% increase.

$10/month ($120/yr)
If you give $10/month, an additional $1/month is a 10% increase.  Instead of $10/month, could you give $11?  Would you notice it if your paycheck was $1/month less than it is right now?  Instead of $120/yr, could you give $132/yr?  $1 additional per month doesn't seem like much, but it is a 10% increase.

$50/month ($600/yr)
If you give $50/month, an additional $5/month is a 10% increase.  Instead of $50/month, could you give $55?  Would you notice it if your paycheck was $5/month less than it is right now?  Instead of $600/yr, could you give $660/yr?  $5 additional per month doesn't seem like much, but it is a 10% increase.
